it’s weird how people will try and talk about transess in regards to people like Marsha and be like “oh well they called themselves gay so they were just gay men” when like…if you knew anything about that era and how transness was navigated then, you would know that gay was a catch all term for relatively any deviation from the gender and sexual norm. There have been multiple trans women from that era that have explicitly said that they didn’t have the same terminology as we do now so they just called themselves gay because that’s what they knew. that’s a part of the reason why the term “gay rights” has been the go to phrase when talking about any sort of movement that includes the entire community. but y'all don’t ever crack open a book and get some sort of satisfaction from talk out your neck and ass simultaneously so.
hey remember when jane austen, a woman, referred to a character named richard as having “never done anything to entitle himself to more than the abbreviation of his name” in 1817. yeah me too.
